  • Flowers (edible and decorative), marigolds, morning glory, petunia, phlox, poppy, pilotus, salpiglossis, sunflowers

Product Efficiency

Aeroponics systems are much more efficient than traditional farming methods. They can reduce water usage by 98%, fertilizer usage by 60% and most importantly, pesticide usage by 100%. Since no pesticides are necessary in this closed system, customers do not have to worry about ingesting toxins. According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, “Plants grown in aeroponic systems, have also been shown to uptake more minerals and vitamins, making plants healthier and potentially more nutritious.” (National Aeronautics and Space Administration, “Spinoff 2006”) Yields from aeroponics crops are higher than compared to traditional farming while maturation of plants is significantly faster as well. Results show that maturation time is reduced to 1/3 in comparison to conventional farming methods because plants grow up to 50% faster. Due to the faster growth, there are also multiple and more harvests of crops, also contributing to higher yields.

Seasonality Constraints?

Another challenge of traditional farming methods is dealing with seasonality. Urban Mist aeroponic farming systems are enclosed in a greenhouse, therefore seasonality is no longer a factor. The customer can produce whatever produce they like regardless of the season. There is no crop loss due to drought or cold winters which may freeze plants. For example, tomatoes are traditionally grown during summer months because they are a seasonal crop, however because the aeroponic system is grown in a greenhouse, tomatoes can be grown in the middle of winter. Consumers benefit by choosing which crops they would like year round, meaning and endless bounty of possibilities.

Growing Space Requirements

In Urban settings, arable lots are typically far and few between, while there is an abundance of rooftop access. These aeroponic systems require little space since crops are grown vertically not horizontally.  In addition to land accessibility, the soil in cities often contains chemicals and contaminants such as lead which goes directly into plants. Customers are able to grow their produce on the buildings they already own/lease without having to search for land. The aeroponic system is easy to assemble and does not interfere with the structure of the building and can easily disassembled if necessary.

Further Benefits

Our customers no longer need to pay the cost of transporting their produce via truck, rail, or plane because by using their produce is now right on top of the building they are located. As a result, pollution is reduced because of the reduction in CO2 emissions. The Urban Mist tower aeropnoic systems use 1/10 of the water a conventional system uses because excess water is cycled back into the system to be reused. This system is conserving water which is a depleting resource in our ecosystem. Our customers our doing their part to help conserve our environment through completely changing and shortening their supply chain for their produce.
